Our food
What makes Pikko different from other cat food brands?
At Pikko, we are Australia’s only fresh cat food brand, offering meals made from 100%
human-grade ingredients. Many premium cat food brands still rely on fillers like grains or
use meat by-products (low-nutrition parts like feathers and bones). Pikko, however, uses
only real, high-quality meat with no preservatives or artificial ingredients, giving your cat
the most natural and nutrient-dense meals possible.
What are meat by-products, and why should I avoid them?
Meat by-products refer to the leftover parts from animal processing such as feathers,
beaks, and bones. These parts provide little nutritional value and can be difficult for cats to
digest. At Pikko, we use 100% human-grade meat, ensuring optimal nutrition for your cat
with no by-products.
Does your food meet AAFCO standards?
Yes! All Pikko meals are nutritionist-formulated and meet the standards set by the AAFCO
(Association of American Feed Control Officials). This ensures that our food provides
complete and balanced nutrition for cats at all life stages.
Is your food raw?
No, Pikko’s meals are gently cooked to retain the maximum amount of nutrients while
ensuring the food is safe for your cat to eat. Cooking the food eliminates harmful bacteria
that can sometimes be present in raw food, providing a safer and healthier option.
Why is fresh food better for my cat?
Fresh food retains more nutrients compared to kibble or canned food because it
undergoes minimal processing. Our meals are gently cooked and frozen fresh to lock in
essential vitamins, minerals, and proteins. This ensures that your cat gets more out of
every meal. Additionally, fresh food has higher moisture content, which helps with
hydration and supports urinary health.
Does Pikko’s food help with hydration?
Yes, our fresh meals are moisture-rich, which naturally supports hydration. Many cats
don’t drink enough water, which can lead to urinary tract issues. Feeding your cat Pikko’s
meals is a great way to help them stay hydrated, promoting better kidney and bladder
health.
Is Pikko’s food suitable for cats with sensitive stomachs?
Yes, Pikko is ideal for cats with sensitive stomachs. Our grain-free, filler-free recipes are
designed to be gentle on digestion, reducing the chances of stomach upset. Many cat
owners report significant improvements in their cat’s digestive health after switching to
Pikko.
Can I feed Pikko’s meals to cats of all ages?
Absolutely! Pikko’s meals are balanced and suitable for all life stages, from kittens to
seniors. You can adjust the portion sizes to meet the needs of growing kittens, energetic
adult cats, or older cats with specific dietary requirements.
Can I choose more than one recipe?
Yes! You can choose from our variety of recipes, including chicken, beef, pork, and fish.
Rotating between recipes can keep your cat interested in mealtime while ensuring a
diverse range of nutrients.
How long can I store Pikko’s meals?
All our fresh frozen meals can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 5 days unopened or 2
days opened. In the freezer, the meals can last up to 9 months. Defrost by placing the food
in the fridge.

Most cats will transition to Pikko within the first 24 hours. To help with that, we recommend a “cold turkey” approach. This method works by taking away their old food and treats and serving only Pikko for the first day. This is often the easiest and quickest way to transition your cat.
- Days 1 & 2: 75% of your cat's current food + 25% Pikko.
- Days 3 & 4: 50% current food + 50% Pikko.
- Days 5 & 6: 25% current food + 75% Pikko.
- Day 7: 100% Pikko.
This gradual approach allows your cat’s digestive system to adjust to the new food while minimizing any risks of gastrointestinal issues.
- Warm up the food: Cats prefer warm or room-temperature food. Add a splash of warm water or microwave the food for ~10 seconds to boost the flavour.
- Try different recipes: If your cat is picky, experiment with our different recipes to find what they love best.
Transition times can vary. While most cats will transition within the first 24 hours, some might need longer—especially those with sensitive stomachs or texture preferences.
Be patient! When your cat switches to our fresh food, they will have a lifetime of better health with more energy and improved digestion.
Adult cats typically need 45-70 calories per kilogram of body weight daily. For example, a 4.5 kg cat would need about 200 calories per day. Pikko’s pouches contain 200 calories each, making it easy to split the meal between breakfast and dinner.
